If you have scars on your nose or any other part of the body, you should understand that they are a part healing process of the skin. We are going to look into details of causes, treatments, remedies of nose scars.

A scar is a mark left on or within the skin where wounds, sores or burns are healing and thus a fibrous connective tissue has developed. This fibrous tissue may remain forever even after the injury has healed completely forming a scar.

Let us now look at the reasons why you may end up with scars on your nose.

Scar on nose

Scars on the nose are majorly due to nose acne or nose trauma such as piercing or rhinoplasty. Other less common reasons include basal cell cancer and some skin problems.

All these causes can either lead to sunken nose scars or raised nose scars. Let's go into details on reasons for the scar on nose.

1. Acne

Do you have acne scars on the nose? Well, there are many types of acne scars that can occur around and on your nasal area. They usually tend to vary in size and severity.

Acne can also cause nose scarring especially when cystic

a). Hypertrophic

These are usually big raised scars on the nose. They result when the deepest layer of skin is damaged especially from pimples, cuts or burns.

These damages often influence the body to produce excess collagen to heal the injuries leading to the raised bump-like scars on the nose.

They can be itchy and very painful, but they usually fade of their own. Also, these scars may be flaky, but they don’t contain any pus.

b). Depressed

Whether nose scars are sunken or raised, depends on how much the collagens your body will produce. If it produces too little collagen, depressions or pits will emerge leading to sunken acne scars on the nose.

c). Cystic

Cystic acne is large, red painful pimples on the skin. These skin breakouts can affect both men and women, especially during puberty (and during menstruation or pregnancy in some women) since hormonal changes trigger them.

Cystic acne on the nose often results in huge unsightly acne and later scars on your nose.

Dealing with nasal acne scars

Is it possible to remove acne scars on the nose? Fortunately, there are many acne scars on nose treatment that are very effective.

Home remedies can heal mild nose acne scars. However, for severe cases, a dermatologist may recommend other procedures such as laser scar removal.

We will see more on how to get rid of these scars on your nose later in the post.

2. Scars after rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is a type of surgery done on the nose majorly to improve nasal breathing or for cosmetic reasons. This procedure could also be done due to trauma or congenital deformity. There are two types of rhinoplasty: open and closed rhinoplasty.

If not done well, it may result in scars on the nose, and sometimes one can end up with keloids too.

3. Nose piercing scars - hypertrophic

Nose piercing is usually safe when carried out professionally but still, hypertrophic scar nose piercing may still emerge due to allergies, infection or when in some people, the body produces excess scar tissue.

In some people, after piercing, there would be the development of nose piercing keloid and this will result to what is seen as nose piercing bump.

4. From basal cell cancer

If you have been diagnosed with basal cell cancer on the nose, then there is need to go for quick and effective treatment. In some cases, there would need to remove the cancerous tissue through surgery (commonly by Mohs surgery).

Before then, a biopsy may be done to determine the presence of cancerous cells. Therefore, there would be two types of nose scars that would manifest in this case: Scars on the nose after Mohs surgery and scars on nose from the skin biopsy.

5. Glasses

Regular spectacle wearing could lead to hyperpigmentation in areas where they come into contact with your skin i.e. on the nose. It could also lead to scars on your nose.

However, this should not worry you; there are many ways to fade of the hyperpigmentation.

6. Nose injuries

Nose injuries usually arise during sports, accident, burns, fights, plays or falls. The injured nose can be swollen, painful and bruised. Sore, cuts or wounds may result and thus formation of scars as they heal. Not all injuries would leave behind noticeable scars, especially minor ones.

If the damaged nose skin is infected, the condition can worsen leading to bigger scars on the nose.

On bridge

Scars on nose bridge can occur due to injuries or any of the above causes. This area also tends to receive many touches or rubs and the act may be due to compulsive body reaction. This could spread the bacteria in this location leading to pimple bumps on the nose bridge.

This could also be due to hereditary factor, many medical professionals urge so. “Most nasal bridge bumps are developing as a result of hereditary development, as there is an overgrowth of the nasal cartilages and bones leading to a convexity or “bump” on the bridge of the nose” []

Scars on nose won't heal

Now, our ultimate question is, are scars on nose permanent? Well, many scars are not permanent but severe ones are.

According to, “Although scars are permanent, they can fade over a period of up to two years. It's unlikely they'll fade anymore after this time.” There are also many factors to think about here. Permanent scarring will depend on the type of scar, location and the treatment applied.

Even though scars tend to be permanent, many medical procedures can clear or remove the scars that tend to be permanent.

Treatment or removal

If you have scars on your nose, then you shouldn't worry. There are many facial scar treatment that can minimize the prominence of such scars.
